James Preston Dudding was born October 24, 1950 in Bloomington, IN to John O. Dudding of Roanoke, VA and Denise M. Jovelet Dudding of Paris, France, both of whom preceded him in death.
Jim, as his friends and family knew him, had been bravely battling late-stage cancer since he was diagnosed in February 2011. He was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife, Valerie. He passed away on June 3, 2012 at his home with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie Hurst Dudding of Ruckersville, VA, and his sons, Joseph James Dudding and Michael Patrick Dudding of Brooklyn, NY. Additionally, Jim is survived by his brother, William A. Dudding and wife Robin Dudding of Midlothian, VA; his sister, Linda S. Brown and husband Bob Cox of Lynchburg, VA; and his nieces and nephews: Jon, Leigh, Zoey, and Chris Dudding, Morgan Russell, Ryan Roark, Bradley and Ashley Carner and Kate Nash; and David, Brent, and Ella Wesolowski.
Jim lived most of his life in Lynchburg, VA, and spent the last ten years in Ruckersville, VA. He attended Brookville High School and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in economics in 1974. After working at B&W for ten years, he joined his brother as a manufacturer's representative with Duhart Co., and later became partner in the company.
Jim will be remembered as the life of the party, someone who loved his family and friends, good food and travel, golfing and fishing, the occasional practical joke, and, of course, a splash of Crown Royal.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Gordon Morris and the staff at the Martha Jefferson Cancer Care Center, the Martha Jefferson Interventional Radiology department, and his Continuum home health care nurse, Lee Klempner.
The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of Jim's life at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7th at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, in Charlottesville, VA.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to CaringBridge.org.
