James R. Humphrey, 86, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Heritage Park Health Care Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Monon, he was a WWII 5th Army, 34th Division veteran that received 3 Bronze Stars and The Purple Heart. James served in Naples, Battle of Foggie, Arnio in Rome and North Africa Casarine Pass. After the army, James worked for GE where he met his wife Teresa. James had many business accomplishments while raising his family: Sales Manager 14 years for Drewreys of South Bend; moved to State Sales manager for Miller High Life in 1966 to 1970 then was promoted to General Sales Manager for Meister Brau's five state area outside Chicago. He then took a sales manager position in Ft. Wayne with Moellering Supply where he retired in 1985. He was a member of American Legion Post 47 and VFW post 857. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Steve) Johnson of Fort Wayne, Denise (Al) Chan of Mission Viejo, CA, and Joyce (Dave) Oetting of Fort Wayne; sons, Doug (Bev) Humphrey of Park Hills, KY, and Ed Humphrey of Fort Lauderdale, FL; sister, Jewell Tomey of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Stephanie, Melissia, Brent, Corey, Casey, and Lee; companion, Norma Jean Yoder of Auburn. James was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa in 1998. Service is 10 Saturday at D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial in Catholic Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 47.
