James Robert Ward, age 82, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2011.
He was a native of Lascassas and the son of the late Howard Peyton Ward and Ruth Kelton Ward. He was born March 9, 1929 in Rutherford County and was a graduate of Lascassas High School where he played basketball from 1946-1948. He served as a Rutherford County Commissioner from1966 to 1986 and was a retired employee of South Central Bell. After retirement, he enjoyed farming and activities in the Lascassas community. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Lascassas.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Eddie Ward, a sister, Evelyn Ward Moore and a brother, Hugh Don Ward.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Ward; a son, Howard Harris Ward; a sister, Ann Ward Todd; nephews, Bruce Todd (Cindy) and Steve Todd; a niece, Beth Moore; a daughter-in-law, Arden Ward; 2 grandchildren, John (Amanda) Ward and Shawn (Jenny) Ward; and several great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Church of Christ at Lascassas.
