James Thaddius Benton, Sr., 75, of the 1100 block of Clarence Street, Norfolk, VA, passed away February 3, 2011, in his home. A native of Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Martha and John Louis Benton, Sr., and the widower of Catherine Flowers Benton. He was a retired Chef from Pizza Chef. He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly B. Chapman and husband Johnnie of Norfolk, VA; his son, James T. Benton, Jr. and wife Paula of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Anita Whitson of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren, Thomas Raiford of Oakwood, VA, Ashley Benton and Cheyenne Benton, both of Virginia Beach, VA, James Benton III and Amber Benton of Chesapeake, VA and Catherine "Kattie" Benton of Norfolk, VA. He was predeceased by his son, Paul W. Benton; and grandson, Rocky Chapman, Jr. A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 12 p.m. at Colonial Grove Memorial Park with Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood officiating. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6340 Center Dr., Suite 129, Norfolk, VA 23502.
