James V. (Butch) Wilson, Sr. of Hampton died November 7, 2011, at the age of 68. A 34 year transplant to Hampton, he was born in Bogalusa, LA. Butch proudly served his country as a US Marine and continued his commitment to the military by serving in the National Guard. After his military service he became an air traffic controller stationed in Memphis, Tennessee where he met his future wife, Hampton native Sue Walls. They relocated to Hampton where they raised their two children, Jim and Libby. Butch retired from air traffic control in Hampton and was fortunate enough to embark on a second career as a police officer in Henry County. This was his childhood dream come true. He was a member of the American Legion Post number 0258 and was a thirty-six year member of the Freemasons. Butch was a dedicated public servant who loved and defended his country on both the national and local levels. Those who knew him will remember his twinkling blue eyes, his infectious personality and his love of LSU and the New Orleans Saints. He is survived by his wife, Sue Walls Wilson; children, Jim Wilson (Melissa) and Libby Wilson Whittemore (Dwayne); grandchildren, Devyn Norman, Chase Wilson, Julie Whittemore and Parker Whittemore; and a brother, Bill Wilson. Memorial Service for Butch will be Thursday, November 10, 2011 – 11:00 AM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Chaplain Don Rusk officiating. Inurnment will follow at Berea Cemetery in Hampton with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 – 8:00 PM .
