James W. McAbee, 72, of Weirton, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at his home. Born September 19, 1939 in Follansbee, WV, he was the son of the late James R. and Irene Grahm McAbee. He was also preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Kondik) McAbee on October 13, 1996. With 38 years of service, Mr. McAbee retired from Weirton Steel. He was a member of the WSX 25-Year Club and was an avid golfer. Whenever there was a dance, James was sure to be in attendance. He always looked forward to the beach vacations with his family every year. He served in the United States Navy. James is survived by his sons James Wayne (Heidi) McAbee, Jr. of Florida and Scott (Tammy) McAbee of South Carolina; daughter Kim (David) Gaddis of Tennessee; brothers Jim (Delores) Studeny of Minnesota and Stephen (Vickie) Studeny of Ohio; sisters Jean Clark of Maryland and Sue (Gary) Fletcher of WV; grandchildren Jamie, Christopher, Devin and Carol-Ann McAbee; 2 great-grandchildren and his special friend Barbara Scarberry of Minerva, OH. Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton, WV where his funeral service will be celebrated at 11AM Friday. Pastor Jason Romine will officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton where military services will be conducted by the American Legion Honor Guard.
