James Walter Garrett, 64, of Austin, Texas, passed away from cancer on February 12, 2012. He was born on January 15, 1948, in Los Angeles. At the age of 5, he moved to San Benito, Texas, where his Mother's family lived. He is preceded in death by his parents William Garrett and Margaret McCain Garrett.
Jim is survived by his wife of 38 years Annetta Kuhn Garrett, his two sons, his two grandsons, and his brother. His son Michael and his wife Berta live with their two children, Francis and Marcus in New Jersey. His son Robert and his wife Syeda live in Miami. Jim's older brother William, lives in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
Following three years in the US Navy training in electronics, he attended the University of Houston studying Economics. After ten years of sales and marketing experience in Houston, he founded Wescom Marketing in Colorado in 1983. He moved to Boise, Idaho, in 1985 working for Micron Technology as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In 1990, he was named Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and from 1992-1994 was President and Chief Operating Officer.
During 1993-1994, he served on the Board of Directors of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center of Boise.
Jim was most loved for his sense of humor which he found in everything. He loved all sports, especially tennis, golf, hunting and cards. He traveled the world with his wife and boys. He was always ready for any new adventure and totally fearless.
The Garrett family wishes to express their appreciation to Christopher House for all of their support and guidance through his final days.
A memorial service will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. 5455 Bee Cave Road, Austin, Texas 78746 on Saturday, February 18th at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow in Morris Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, for those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Neumann, Building Fund.
