Funeral service for SFC James Wilson Brown, US ARMY (Ret), 83, will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens with Masonic and full military rites. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 pm at the funeral home.
SFC Brown died Sunday, December 18, 2011. Born in West Palm Beach, FL, he was the son of the late Wilson J. and Gertrude McInthyre Brown. He was the husband of the late Margie E. Brown.
SFC Brown retired from the US Army following 25 years of service having served during WWII, Korea and two tours in Vietnam where he received two bronze stars with Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a lifetime member of the Dentsville Masonic Lodge 398 where he was secretary and held several offices within the lodge. He was a Worthy Patron with Eastern Star #273. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner and a member of the Jamil Temple.
Surviving are his daughter, Susie Kell-Walker (Tom) of West Columbia; son, Jimmy Brown (Kim) of Pelion; Wesley Banks of Lexington; grandchildren, Jay Kell, Angie Kell Sherk of W. Columbia and Jimi Brown; four great-grandchildren and a lifelong friend, Patsy Robinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rainbow Girls, c/o Dentsville Masonic Lodge #398, 6604 Shakespeare Road, Columbia, SC 29223, or a charity of one's choice.
