Jan P. Lowrance VIRGINIA BEACH - Jan Preston Lowrance passed away Feb. 10, 2009. Jan was raised in Norfolk, graduating from Granby High School in 1964. He excelled in sports - from Little League to varsity baseball and football at Granby. After serving four years in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman, he attended and graduated from Old Dominion University in 1974. He took a job at Parksley High School where he excelled as a teacher and coach. Jan decided to change careers and went to work in the construction industry for his father-in-law, Hap Hoy, at Hoy Construction. He rose through the ranks from a carpenter to a construction superintendent, retiring after 26 years. His most recent job was as a structural inspector for Sinclair Pratt Cameron in Virginia Beach. Though building was his trade, his family was what he cared about most. Loving them and sharing the best of himself with them was his greatest work. He leaves behind to celebrate his wonderful life his wife, sweetheart and best friend, Linda Hoy Lowrance; his precious daughters, Whitney Lowrance of Virginia Beach, Aubrey Lowrance Prest and her husband Chad and baby granddaughter Caroline Grace of Cary, N.C. He is also survived by his mother, Maggie Lowrance; sister, Kimberly Voight and her son John Voight and her husband Kurt VonGehr; brother, Keith Lowrance and wife Debbie and their three girls Page, Meredith and Jordan, all of Virginia Beach; and brother, Scott Lowrance of Richmond. He was predeceased by his father, James Lowrance. Jan's friends are many and all will remember his joy for living and infectious energy. Ever the sports enthusiast, an inspiration for fitness and health, he's a man to admire and love. There will be a celebration of Jan's life Saturday at 2 p.m. in Thalia United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Jan's memory to Thalia United Methodist Church. All arrangements are being made by H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com.
