Jane M. Cooney Gumble, 85, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at St. John's Hospice. She was born October 1, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Joe and Josephine Tigue Cooney. She married R. Dean Gumble on December 27, 1952, in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in death on November 1, 2009. Jane graduated from St. John's High School in Pittston, PA and from the University of Pittsburgh. She later attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables and the University of Illinois. She taught in Pittsburgh, PA and Springfield IL District 186 for over thirty-five years. She was a member of Church of the Little Flower. Jane was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Mary Gumble Levy. She is survived by four sons, Mark (companion, Marianne), John (wife, Madeline), Frank "Greg" (wife, Tammy), Steve (wife, Lori); five daughters, Patti (husband, Jim) Berger, Laura (husband, Mike) Ray, Rose Gumble, Gretchen (husband, Jon) Grieser, Becky (husband, Adam) Giganti; son-in-law, Ron Levy; twenty-one grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Jane's proudest accomplishment was raising ten children with Dean, who all remain great friends. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Church of the Little Flower, 800 Stevenson Drive, Springfield, with the Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Gumble Levy Tribute Award c/o St. Louis University, School of Public Health, 3663 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.
