Jane S. Hogan, 95, passed away March 8, 2011, in a local hospital. She was born May 8, 1915 in Randolph, NY to Frank L. Scudder and Florence Merrick Scudder. Her father was a Dairy Farmer. Jane liked to read and considered her life "typical". Jane graduated from Syracuse University in 1935 with a degree in "mathematics". She taught High School math in Randolph, NY and Oil City, PA. After her first year of teaching, Jane and her future sister-in-law, Estelle Hogan traveled to the west coast on a dollar a day. In 1938 Jane married Martin E. Hogan, who had degrees in "physics, engineering and law" and was working at the Patent Office in Washington DC. They moved to Baltimore, MD and lived there for 11 years, working for Glenn R. Martin Co. Jane had two children: Edward (Ned) M. Hogan and Richard Martin Hogan, who passed away in 1996. In 1952 the family moved back to Washington DC where Martin went to work for a patent law firm "Stevens, Davis, Miller & Mosher". When Ned and Richard went off to college, so did Jane, fulfilling a life long dream, she received a Masters in Library Science in 1966 from Catholic University in Washington DC. She taught library science at Marymount College for 3 years. Martin E. Hogan died in 1965 and Jane and her beloved sister Frances lived together in Arlington, VA and as she termed it "cruised through life for 25 years". They traveled and enjoyed life until Frances became handicapped and could not walk for long distances. Jane moved to Virginia Beach in 1998 to be near her granddaughter Elizabeth "Lisa" H. Vogler and her great grandchild Madison Jane Vogler. Jane S. Hogan had 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Jane loved to read and travel, Scandinavia and the Black Forest standing out in her memory as wonderful trips. She also loved the outdoors and gardening especially.
