Brattleboro- Janet Mae Scryba, 72, of Upper Dummerston Road, a longtime resident of Hinsdale died Friday evening, September 16, 2011 with her family by her side following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Greenfield, Mass on May 3, 1939 the daughter of Peter and Minnie (Budrewicz) Scryba. Raised and educated in Greenfield she was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Class of 1958. Janet was a stay at home Mom in her earlier years and later was employed at the former Bridgeport Metal Goods in Hinsdale where she retired from following 30 faithful years with the company. Of her leisure time activities, her favorite was going to auctions and yard sales. She loved the beach in her earlier years and owned a little red convertible for drives along the coast of Maine. Janet also enjoyed camping, owned a pontoon boat on the river and loved family BBQ's. The holidays were a special time of the year for her and she loved to prepare holiday meals with always a beautiful table setting. She continuously worked on projects around her home to stay active. For the past six years she took great pride in being a "picker" for her daughter and son-in-laws business, the former Country Goods & Antiques in Alstead, N.H. Survivors include her loving friend, Rupert Goodenough, with whom she made her home, his children, Craig Goodenough and wife Debbie of Guilford and Sharon (Goodenough) Roberge and her husband George of Brattleboro, one daughter, Terri Kathan and her husband Jim of Langdon, N.H., one son, Marcus Cole and his wife Anitra of Charleston, WV, three precious grandchildren, Jaime Kathan and Gannon and Laney Cole. Additionally she leaves, a brother, Richard Schryba of Watertown, TN and two other siblings, and a longtime friend, Bill Perry of Hinsdale. She was predeceased by her parents and her oldest son, Alan Cole. Graveside committal services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hinsdale with Pastor Steve McClelland of West Brattleboro Baptist Church officiating. Family and friends are invited back to the Goodenough residence at 1251 Upper Dummerston Road following the service for light refreshments and reflection. In lie of flowers memorial contributions in Janet's name may be made to, Brattleboro Area Hospice, 191 Canal St., Brattleboro, VT 05301 or to, Bayada Hospice, 309 Main St., Norwich, VT 05055.
