Janette "Jan" Christina Matheny, 59, took her last breath on November 3, 2012, at home with family present after a fearless battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, at 2:00 pm at First Lutheran Church in Bismarck with Rev. Allen Wagner officiating. Jan wished to be cremated with a private graveside service at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Jan was born in Bismarck, ND, on January 22, 1953, to Clifford and Olga (Bossert) Josephson. She lived part of her young life in Wing, ND. She moved to Bismarck where she graduated from Bismarck High School. In 1972 she married Mark Henninger and had two daughters: Susanna in 1974 and Melanie in 1976. On February 22, 2002 she married Michael Matheny who loved her dearly for the remainder of her days. Over her 17 year career with K-Mart and her 22 year career with Wal-Mart, she touched many lives and mentored many people. She always considered her associates as family and was known for being a "mom" to everyone she worked with. She was always willing to help them with anything they needed, and had a huge impact on so many of the people she came to know. Jan was completely selfless and put others before herself every day of her life. She was always willing to listen to anyone who had a need to talk. She was kind, giving, and a little zany. She always accepted everyone the way they were, and taught them to have pride in themselves and their abilities. Family was very important to Jan, and once she considered a person part of her family, they stayed family through the good times and the bad. Jan enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was very excited and happy to recently hear there were more babies on the way. Her grandchildren were very important to her, and she loved baking cookies with them and having silly-string fights on Christmas. Jan will be greatly missed by her husband, Michael; her children, Susanna Magstadt (Lisa Warner), and Melanie Lewis (Brentley); her special son, Larry L. Magstadt; her special niece, Megan Fleming (Christopher); her grandchildren, Hannah, Ethan, Seth, Jordyn, and Zena; her siblings, JoyAnn Holsten (Larry Koffer), James Josephson, Julianna Bennet, and Anthony Roll; her step-siblings, Rose Mattern (Tim), and Carl Zenter; her step-children, Ann Marie Stanley (Robert), Richard Matheny (Austie), Christina Matheny, Gregory Tyndell, Michael D. Matheny, and James R Tyndall; her many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and her work family.
