Janie Anderson was the only child born to the late Arthur and Laura Cawthorn on June 29, 1925 in Allendale, South Carolina. The family moved to New Jersey where Janie was educated in the Bayonne Public School System. Janie graduated from Bayonne High School where she met her high school sweetheart, William (Bill) Anderson who recently passed away on February 15, 2011. Janie and Bill were united in Holy Matrimony on June 28, 1947 and to this union three sons were born, William, Jr., Gary and Mark. She was a member of Wallace AME Zion Church in Bayonne, New Jersey at an early age. Janie was later baptized and joined First Baptist Church of Linden, New Jersey under the leadership of the late Pastor G. George Abernathy. Janie was a life member of the NAACP. Janie, an only child, began to lose her sight after high school. She would often talk about the joys of having a family and was very grateful to God for allowing her to raise her three sons. Although she was legally blind, no one would ever know of her handicap because she was meticulous about her clothes matching and she kept her home spotless. In place of her sight, she had a special gift of memory; especially names, numbers and addresses. No one could cheat Janie out of any money. He favorite saying was, “Give me my flowers while I’m alive! I don’t want any flowers when I’m gone.” Janie felt blessed to have a special relationship with her daughter-in-law, Yvette who took special care of her during her husband’s illness. Janie told everyone “She was the daughter I never had.” She departed this life on Friday, May 14, 2011. She leaves to cherish her memory; three sons, William, Jr. (Patsy), Gary (Rosalind) and Mark (Yvette); eight grandchildren, Matthew (Amber), Maria, Melody, Christina, Douglass, Courtney, Diamond and Eugene; twin great-grandchildren, Jacob and Joseph with another one on the way: and a special cousin, Garlene Allen.
