Jeanette Lorraine Hubbard-Lewis was born on June 11, 1943 in Blakely, Georgia in Early County to the late Mrs. Senella Hubbard and the late Mr. Willie S. Hubbard, Sr. Ms. Lewis heard the summons from her heavenly father then petitioned the father to grant some farewell time to family and friends. She accepted the summons on December 18, 2010 to go home to her heavenly father. Jeanette received her elementary and high school education from Washington High School in Blakely, Georgia. She attended Morris Brown College, Atlanta, Georgia for two years, then entered nursing school prior to migrating to New Jersey. Prior to entering Harlem School of Nursing, she worked at Newark Beth Israel as a clerk. She graduated from Harlem School of Nursing in 1966, after which she worked at United Hospitals (formerly Presbyterian Hospital) in Newark, New Jersey. After twelve years being employed by United Hospitals as a Staff Nurse and Head Nurse, she worked briefly at Planned Parenthood. Jeanette then married and traveled to St. Thomas, VI, where she worked at Maternal Child Health (MCH) for 25 years. She retired and moved back to New Jersey. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Newark, New Jersey. There she participated in many health programs sponsored by the Health Committee. Jeanette has been a frequent volunteer in community health such as the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Lead Program, Mentorship Program and many others. Currently she served on the Roselle Board of Health and the Senior Advisory Committee. She is a member of the NAACP and National Council of Negro Women. She is survived by her two sisters, Althea Lois Jones, Vauxhall, NJ and Annette Hubbard, RN, Roselle, NJ; a brother, James A. Hubbard, MD, Albany, GA (one brother, William Hubbard, Jr. predeceased her). She leaves loving memories of her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
