Jeanne Long Sorensen, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away on June 30, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with congestive heart failure.
As with Jeanne’s colorful character she wrote her own obituary: “I was born on December 19, 1939 in Provo, Utah, the daughter of David and Nadine Giles Long. I was raised and educated in the Provo area but spent most of my time on the ranch in South Fork of Provo Canyon. I had two brothers, David and Douglas who precede me in death. I married Gary Sorensen in Ely, Nevada. Gary died on October 27, 2002.
My greatest accomplishment was my two children, Stacy Nadine (Whittemore) and Brian (Sorensen). They will never know how much they were appreciated and loved, there were heartaches but always love and understanding. They stood by and supported us through all of the rough times. Brian married Kimberly Davis and she would have been my choice, what a sweetheart. My greatest joy was my grandchildren, Jamie, Justine, Jeanne (J.C.), Brianne and Chance, and then my great grandson Mark. I don’t have words to express the love of what my grandkids gave to me. There were times I would have liked to “kick them through the goal post of life” (and they know who I mean), but I am extremely proud of what they have become.
I worked in various jobs in office positions in the Provo, Payson, and Cedar City areas. I enjoyed being around people.
I loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and especially riding my ATV, boy, did I get myself in some helluva fixes the kids never knew about. My enjoyment was attending Ricky Van Shelton concerts and the PBR, professional bull riding. The kids knew never to call during the televised bull riding events and the neighborhood knew I was watching it as well due to the screaming and cursing I did. Quilting and crocheting afghans saved my sanity after Gary died, as well as before.
I was outspoken and extremely blunt with a colorful vocabulary which got me into a lot of trouble, but that is the way I am. Had something to say, I said it. I wasn’t the typical version of “the sweet little old gray haired grandma”. If I could stir things up I would, I loved to have fun and be on the go.
I will be buried in Goshen, Utah next to Gary. And I’ll come back and put a curse on anyone who tries to make me into something I never was.”
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 2, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary in Payson, 587 South 100 West. A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. As per Jeanne’s request please wear casual western attire.
In celebration of Mom’s life an open house will be held July 5, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. at Jeanne’s house, 2111 Wedgewood Lane Cedar City, Utah 84720.
