Jeannette Kyame passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2011, aged 89 years. Born in the French Quarter, she was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and Metairie. After attending John McDonogh Sr. High, Jeannette received her bachelors degree from Newcomb College. Following a short stint teaching mathematics, she began a 35 year career as one of the first female geolphysical analysts at Chevron, retiring in 1984.
Jeannette was a long time member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and cofounding member of St. Basil Antiochian Orthodox Church. Although denying she was an excellent artist, Jeannette was a master at the art of Pysanky, or hand dye-dipped Ukranian Easter eggs. Though baking was her specialty, her true passion was her love of world travel. From Switzerland to China, from Russia to Australia, Greece, Egypt, and the Middle East, she has been everywhere. She was preceded in death by her mother Malvina Kurban and her father John. Also preceding her were her sisters Margaret, Lillian, and Beatrice, and her brothers Michael, George, Joseph, and Elias. She is survived by members of the Clark, Hamauei, Heuer, Mandeville and Kyame families, and a host of grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.Jeannette was a sister and an aunt to many, but a Godmother to all. God Bless.
