Jennie F. Huizenga, age 77, went to live with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 26, 2010, after a brief illness of Pancreatic Cancer. Jennie, the eldest of four, was born January 4, 1933 in Oak Lawn, IL to George and Gertrude (Haak) Postma. At 9 years old, she moved with her family to Bellflower, CA, where she attended Bellflower Christian School through the eighth grade. Jennie lived in California until she was 14. Her family then moved from California to Everson, WA and then to Sumas. It was in Sumas where Jennie met the love of her life, Albert Huizenga. They were married Feb. 6, 1952 in Ferndale, WA. They attended Sumas Christian Reformed Church until 1970, when they moved their family to Lynden where they attended Second Christian Reformed Church. Jennie's many passions included crocheting doilies and baby hats for Helping Hands for Babies; sewing squares for quilts and quilting for Second CRC Quilters, for missions and watching her Mariners. Many enjoyed Grandma Jennie's chocolate chip cookies. Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Albert always enjoyed traveling with Tulip Tours and Jennie enjoyed the cruises she took with her children. Her caring and loving personality was evident as she became "Grandma Jennie" to many whose lives she touched. She is survived by her daughter Trudy (Vern) Haveman of Custer; sons David (Beverly) Huizenga of Bothell; Dennis (Darlene) Huizenga of Lynden; her 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren—Heidi Haveman, Wade (Amber) Haveman: Sonja, Dalton, Kallie & Karsen; Shana (Craig) Magis: Pherrin; Mark (Amanda) Olson: Amelia; Ruth (Beau) Hansen; Ella-Ruth, Micah; Elizabeth Huizenga; Timothy Huizenga; Austin Huizenga; Crystal (Bruce) Hippe; Ruby Huizenga; Bryan Huizenga; brothers, Doede (Marge) Postma of Sumas; George (Lori) Postma of Abbotsford, BC; sisters-in-law Betty Postma of Sedro Woolley; Agnes Lankhaar, Betty Hilverda of Lynden; Marian Huizenga of Everson and numerous other relatives. Jennie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert of 51 years; brother John Postma; brothers-in-law Bonne Hilverda, Bill Lankhaar, Gilbert Huizenga, Don & sister-in-law, Lena Huizenga. Please, in lieu of flowers, Jennie requested donations to: Helping Hands for Babies, c/o First Christian Reformed Church, 1010 Front St. or Second Christian Reformed Quilters, 805 Grover St., both of Lynden, WA 98264. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, 1:00 pm at Second Christian Reformed Church, 8th and Front St. in Lynden with Pastor Jim Carberry officiating. Private burial will be in Monumenta Cemetery.
