Jennings Bryan Kirkland, Jr., 87, (Kirk) of Hobe Sound, FL, and Old Lyme, CT, passed away on January 18, 2012, at home in Hobe Sound after a brief illness. He was born on May 3, 1924, in Chiefland, Florida, to Jennings Bryan Kirkland, Sr., and Lula Barrow Kirkland.

Mr Kirkland served in Company E, 302nd Infantry of the 94th Infantry of the U S Army and served under General George S. Patton in World War II. He is a recipient of the Purple Heart.

Bryan retired from the former Peter A Frasse Company in Wethersfield, CT, after 30 years of service as a salesman in the Southern Massachusetts territory.

He leaves behind his wife of 65 years Mary Alice Horan Kirkland and their four children: his sons, William Alex Kirkland of Suffield, CT and Boynton Beach, FL and Jennings Bryan Kirkland of Suffield, CT. His daughters Debra Kirkland Grove of Cheshire, CT and Patricia Kirkland Chadwick of Niantic, CT. He also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren, all residing in Connecticut.

He also leaves behind his brother Lauris Kirkland of Waldo, FL.

In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by his sisters Gerva Gieger of Tampa, FL, and Charlene Johnson of Trenton, FL.

A Memorial Service will be held in Connecticut, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Kirk's memory to Treasure Coast Hospice at 1201 S. E. Indian Street in Stuart, FL 34997.
