Jerry Lovett, 73, resident of Formosa Drive,
died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Life Care of Columbia.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Russ Adcox, Charlie Norman, and Gary Vanwormer officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Maury Hills Church, 111 Unity Drive, Columbia 38401. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com.
The Maury County native was the son of the late Willie Lee Lovett and Lorella Black Lovett and served in the U. S. Air Force. As a young man, he established a partnership with Billy Sargent, and together they owned and operated Lovett & Sargent Body Shop for 36 years.
Mr. Lovett coached baseball in the American Little League and Columbia Babe Ruth League for a number of years. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with both family and friends.
He was a member of Maury Hills Church.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Effie Horne Lovett of Columbia; sons, Jerrel (Gennie) Lovett and David (Ashley) Lovett of Columbia; grandchildren, Jason (Jana) Lovett, Morgan Lovett, and Matt Lovett; great-grandchildren, Jordan Lovett and Jake Lovett; sisters, Lorene Hardison, Eugenia Posey, and Faye Ward of Columbia and Mary Jean Ingrum of Brentwood; brother, Tommy (Sherry) King of Valdosta, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Mamie Norman of Columbia and Juanita Horne of Franklin; brothers-in-law, George (Dot) Horne and William (Treva) Horne.
He was preceded in death by brothers, William "Buddy" Lovett, Larry "Cotton" Lovett, and Anthony "Tony" Lovett.
Active pallbearers are Billy Sargent, Joe Horne, Carl Brooks, Bobby Jacobs, Terry Johnson, Tim Hill, Harvey Nicholson, and Jason Lovett.
Honorary pallbearers include Billy Reed, Frank Duncan, Bobby Fox, Jimmy Lunn, Tommy Carroll, Ted Johnson, Vernon Murray, Theo Leathers, Sam McDaniel, Joe Lancaster, Mike Bone, Charles Garner, Joe Anderson, Eddie Ables, Gary Montgomery, Ray Kuykendall, Randy Stevens, Ronnie Grant, Virgil White, David Fitzgerald, Dave Hall, Eddie Miller, Cary Bills, Katie Winchester, Mary Davidson, Porter Hills neighbors, friends at Maury Hills Church, and Dr. Hrishi Kanth.
