Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Jerald B. "Jerry" Noel, 68, a resident of Bettendorf, will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will take place in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport, with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. to begin the visitation. Jerry died Friday, October 26, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center, West Central Park after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Jerald Byrl Noel was born on September 18, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa, a son of Byrl Wilbur and Violet Rilla (Bandy) Noel. Jerry was united in marriage to Sharon Kay Garcia on September 12, 1964 at Our Lady of Lourdes, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Jerry worked for International Harvester, Farmall Works, Rock Island until their closing in 1984. After a brief stint as an over the road truck driver, he went to work as a driver for EMJ Metals of Eldridge. He briefly retired in 2010, but went back to work for EMJ and worked up until he became ill in September.
Jerry and Sharon were members of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, and former members of St. John Vianney of Bettendorf. While at St. John Vianney they taught religious education and were Eucharistic ministers. Jerry was also a member of Local 1309 while an employee of IH.
Jerry was a diehard Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers fan. He had a unique sense of humor, and enjoyed a practical joke every now and then. He was a man who could do anything with his hands, whether it was carpentry work or working on cars, he truly was a jack of all trades.
Memorials may be made to Junior Diabetes Research Foundation or American Cancer Society.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon, Bettendorf, children: Andrea Noel(Audree Rice) Aurora, CO, Terri (Robert) Dilly, Steilacoom, WA, Jim (Kathy) Noel, Davenport, and Chris Noel, Aurora, IL; grandchildren, Jordan, Hannah, and Andreas Noel; and close friends: Gloria and Orville Carpenter and Sandi and Phil Van Wassenhove.
