Jerry Redell Ponton went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 25, 2011 after his battle with cancer. His wife of 50 years, Margaret Ann Ponton, was at his bedside along with his three children and several family members. Up until the early morning hours of December 24th, he was determined not to be confined to his bed. Many family members and friends enjoyed the many days of conversation and heart to heart talks. Jerry loved his visitors and for him it was like a family reunion every day. At the moment of his death, he opened his eyes and looked up. He was gone from this earthly body to a place where there is no more pain and no more sorrow.
Jerry, known to many as Redell, touched many lives. He enlisted in the US Navy as a young man and was assigned to the USS Colahan. His character was honorable and he received the good conduct medal. He was a faithful husband, a great dad and helpful to his family. Redell worked at Gardner Denver building off shore oil rigs and at Boeing as an aircraft specialist. He loved working and staying busy. He was better known as a jack of all trades. He never gave up on life. He is a great example to his family. Redell has three children, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He met one of his grandchildren in heaven on Christmas Day.
There is noone else that Redell wanted to preach his service other than his pastor, David Mills at Berean Baptist Church.
Redell was at peace with dying. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and knew that he would spend eternity in heaven. He died peacefully on Christmas morning at 1:10am. Therefore, let Redell's family and friends know that he is in a much happier place and has complete peace.
