Jewel Mae Rhodes of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by her two daughters on November 6, 2011. She was born on August 3, in Jewett, Texas to Jadie and Julie Haynes. She graduated from George Carver High School in Leon County. After High School Jewel moved to the Dallas/Fort Worth to start her family. Jewel worked at Collins Radio/Rockwell International, now known as Acatel Networks, for nearly three decades. Jewel was a member of the Dallas Academy of Arts and Letters and volunteered her time towards her daughter Sylvia's political campaign. She was the true meaning of life because she traveled, was highly sociable, lived and enjoyed every day of her life to the fullest.

Jewell is preceded in death by one son, Roosevelt Jackson, Jr; She is survived by her daughters Sharon Burton (Ken) and Sylvia Bradley (Terry); four grandchildren, Ashley Cooks, Kendria Burton, Elizabeth Dary and Grant Fitzgerald Bradley. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and loved ones.
