Jimmie Parker Compton, 78, husband of Betty Gleason Compton, passed away at his home September 5, 2011.
Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William Jennings and Augustine McCullough Compton.
Jimmie was a graduate of Anderson Boys High School and attended Clemson and Anderson Universities. He also was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from the SCDOT as a construction engineer.
Jimmie was a longtime member of Pickens First Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was also a member of Gideon's International, Pickens County Chapter.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children, Russell C. Compton and his wife Robin; and Cara C. Collins and her husband Steven; his grandchildren, Ashley & Joshua Compton; and Ryan & Savannah Collins; his great grandchild, Kylie J. Compton; his sister, Mary C. Weaver and her husband Don; and his brother, Stanley Compton and his wife Pat.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lucy C. Seel.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Townville, Wednesday at 2:00pm.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 -11:00am at the funeral home.
