Jimmie "Butch" Smith was born in Clarkton, NC on December 20, 1948. Butch as he was known was educated in the area schools graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, Clarkton, NC. He relocated to Paterson in 1968. Butch joined the Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was an employee at Caravan Products Totowa, NJ from which he retired in 2009. Butch will be remembered as an extraordinary person. He was straight forward, firm and did not bite his tongue. Yet his love for his family was deep. His family members will remember his love and devotion to all of his family members. He loved sports his favorite teams included: (Baseball) Mets, (Basketball) Knicks and (Football) San Francisco 49ers. He also had dreams of one day winning the lottery. His favorite saying "Say Man" and " I don't mean no harm". He was preceded in death by his parents Spencer and Ruby P. Smith, one sister: Mary Ann Baldwin and two brothers, Frank D. and Benny Spencer Smith. He departed this life Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at St. Joseph's Wayne Hospital. Butch leaves to cherish wonderful memories his wife, Stella L. Smith, who was the apple of his eye, one son, Jimmie (Nikki) Smith, two daughters, Theresa Sumblin and Broadus (Gary) Alford, three grandchildren, Dion and Keon Sumblin of Paterson, NI, one granddaughter, Tajali Alford of Garfield, NJ, four brothers, James (Etha Mae) Smith of New Haven, CT, Herbert (Martha Ann) Smith of Greensboro, NC Alonzo (Edithe) Smith of Paterson, NJ, and Johnny (Brenda) Smith of Greensboro, NC, three sisters, Broadus (Washington) Summers of Greensboro, NC, Betty (Freddie) Lennon of Greensboro, NC and Alberta Burney of Atlanta, GA, six sisters-in-law, Rosalee Smith of Greensboro, NC Mable Henry and Arlene Carlise of Norfolk, VA, Doris Austin of Perris, CA, Frances (Ralph) Pitts of Paterson, NJ, and Gloria Douglas of Clarkton, NC, three special nieces, Tonya Denise Smith, Tressy Smith, and Priscilla Ann Smith, one uncle, Floyd Ratliff of Charlotte, NJ two goddaughters, Skyla Canty (his special friend) and Shawna Robertson, special friend, Fredrick Crocker all of Paterson, NI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
