JoLene Askew
On July 8, 2011, a beautiful summer morning, our sweet and exceedingly caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend was finally given the just peace she so greatly deserved. She can now dance and sing with the angels pain free. God has lovingly called her home. JoLene was born on January 28, 1935, at home in Salt Lake City to her parents Waldemar and Jeanette Nielsen, the youngest of seven children. She happily spent a portion of her childhood in Bluebell in the Uinta Basin, a source of many fond memories. JoLene married her eternal sweetheart Robert E. Askew on June 10, 1955, later sealed in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Robert and JoLene are the beloved parents of Ed (Linda) Askew and Pamela (Kevin) Fife and grandparents to twins Robert Eric and Michael Ray (both deceased), Chenille, Miquelle and Cody Askew and Justice Fife. Family was the center of JoLene’s life.
JoLene loved Christmas, especially making her famous candies and picking out a flocked Christmas tree at Allied. She also enjoyed preparing a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner, although the stuffing was always somewhat questionable to those other than Bob and her children. JoLene was a very giving person and gave freely of her love and time. She held a special place in her heart for the Disabled American Veterans and spent countless hours in the service of others through this organization. She was also in charge of calling Ward members with a special birthday remembrance; a task she happily fulfilled for years and as recently as two days prior to her death.
The family gives sincere thanks to Dr. Gregory Elliott, Dr. Lynette Brown and the doctors and staff at Intermountain Medical Center for making it possible for us to have a few more precious years and memories with JoLene.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 16 at 1:00 at the L.D.S. Chapel located at 3276 S. Hillsdale Drive in West Valley City. A viewing will be held prior to the services at 12:00 and on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights.
