Joan Agatha Hogan was born January 13, 1930 in Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of Dr. Henry and Helen Herold.

Joan was the beloved wife of William Vincent Hogan, Jr. for 49 years. She remained a devoted widow after William's passing in 2000.

Joan is survived by her nine children: Michele, Robert, Timothy, Charles, Stephanie, Mary, Christopher, Carol and Roxanne; her brothers: Justin, James, Lucien and Robert; 22 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Joan was a long time resident of North Hills, where she raised her family. After raising her children, she took a job working for the Los Angeles Unified School District as an Educational Aid. She retired after 20 years of service. Joan was passionate about her family, her Catholic faith, volunteering and gardening. She raised orchids in a hothouse and took great pride in her rose garden. She loved to be at the ocean, walking along the shoreline and collecting seashells. Most of all Joan was an extremely determined person. After her first stroke one side of her body was paralyzed. She was determined to succeed at three major goals. Joan wanted to drive her car, walk in the sand unassisted, and be able to knit. She succeeded at all three but, kitting was the most important one for her. So many of us were gifted by her blankets, scarfs, hats, scrubbers, etc. She also created to provide comfort to people she did not know: tiny hats for premature babies and scarfs for our soldiers. Joan will always be remembered as someone who loved people, loved to socialize, travel and laugh. She was Grandma-on-the-go, always at one of her children's home to visit or babysit. Grandma would tell you exactly what any of her grandchildren were doing, with a proud gleam in her eye. Most of all Joan loved Bingo!

A stroke four years ago had physically slowed Joan down a bit, but never slowed her zest for life. She suffered another stroke on December 13, 2011. Joan passed away peacefully on December 16, 2011 with her family by her side. She was 81 years old.
