Joan Cooks was born on April 25, 1941 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late, Samuel and Willie B. (Williams) Cooks. She was a lifelong resident of Paterson. Joan was employed by the Paterson Public Schools at Rosa Parks High School for twenty-five years. Everyone who knew her loved her, if she could help you in any way she would without hesitation. One of Joan's favorite past times was yard sales. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her son, Tyrone Cooks, her daughter, Marlene Cooks, granddaughter, Lahiyyah Williams, three brothers, Robert, Stanley and Samuel Cooks, two sisters, Beatrice Brown and Gloria Cooks and her grandmother, Rena Cooks. Left to cherish precious memories are: one son, Craig Cooks of Paterson, NJ; four daughters, Carolyn and Wanda Cooks, both of Paterson, NJ, Remel Dixon of Haledon, NJ and Colleen Hanley of Venice, CA; son-in-law, Patrick Hanley of Venice, CA; like a son, Hameen Johnson of Paterson, NJ; nine grandchildren, Tykecha Cooks, Crainysha Rutherford, Tashana Carter, Keshawn Carter, Shanelle Cooks, Typree Pendelton, Ramir Williams, Bahiyyah Williams and Samuel White; six great-grandchildren, Nasir Cooks, Arionna Garcia, Richard Garcia, Jaylon Garcia, Shakur Muckle and Khori Muckle; dedicated nieces, Racquel Cooks and Yvonne Cooks; sisters-in-law, Celia Cooks and Dora Cooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
