Joan G. Wuterich, 77, passed away July 19, 2011. She was born in Cambridge, MA. and raised in Belmont, Ma. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Wuterich; her parents, Robert and Loretta Gale; as well as her aunt, Helen Gale. Surviving is her life partner of 40 years, John A. Ottesen. She lived in Massachusetts until she moved to Virginia Beach, VA with John in 2003. She graduated from Pembrooke College which is now a part of Brown University with a Bachelors' degree, then received her Master's Degree at Boston College and her PHD from Boston College. Joan Wuterich was a member of the Pilot Club and was installed as the 1994-95 president-elect of Pilot International. In 1993, she retired after 23 years as a computer science professor at Salem State College. She also taught a graduate level course at the college's Division of Graduate and Continuing Education. Besides Pilot, she was a volunteer with the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and with the Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association where she served on the Memory Walk Committee. She had also volunteered in the Help for the Homeless and the Abused Women and Their Children (HAWC) program. She especially enjoyed traveling and spent her leisure time reading, doing word puzzles, cross-stitch needlework, quilting and crocheting. Services for Joan will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SPCA. A special thanks for the care Joan received provided by her private nurses: Marion Goffigan, Eleanor Jones, Tracy Mills, Amber Araujo, Sharifa Jones and Shalimar Link as well as from the staff of Baylake Retirement Home.
