Joan B. (Bev) Helring, of Taylor and Miami Beach, Florida, died Thursday in the Intensive Care Unit of the Regional Hospital of Scranton after a brief illness. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John J. and Marcella Flynn Helring, she was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School in West Scranton and Lackawanna Junior College. Bev was employed for 35 years by the Scranton School District as secretary to the Principal of the former Scranton Central High School. She was a member of St. Ann's Basilica. A loving and devoted sister, she will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Her sister Barbara would like to express her gratitude to Dr. Robert Kaville, Dr. Ajay Shetty and Dr. Jeremiah Eagen for all of the care and comfort that they provided. Also, a special thanks to all of the nurses who cared for Bev in the Intensive Care Unit. Surviving is her sister, Barbara Helring-Glindmeyer and several cousins, including Erin Flynn, who was like a sister to her. Preceding in death was her brother, Carl J. Helring, who was killed in Vietnam, 1970, and her beloved brother-in-law, Gunter Glindmeyer, 2009. Funeral services will begin on Monday at 12:45PM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 1:30PM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann's Basilica to be celebrated by Rev. Francis Landry, C.P., Pastor. Entombment will follow in the family mausoleum in the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bev's name to either St. Ann's Basilica (1233 St. Ann Street, Scranton, 18504) or St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen (500 Penn Ave., Scranton, 18509).
