Joan Jean (Jurrens) Anderson, the daughter of Donald and Joyce (Blaha) Jurrens, was born on October 25, 1952 in Mitchell, South Dakota. After a long hard struggle with cancer for 5 years, Joan passed away peacefully at her home on May 5, 2007, at the age of 54.
She attended Avon, South Dakota Elementary School through the 6th grade. Her family then moved to Estherville, where she finished her primary education. She then attended Iowa Lakes Community College where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. After receiving her degree, she was employed by the Estherville Good Samaritan Center for a total of 35 years.
On December 17, 1971, she was united in marriage to George A. Anderson Jr., who was the love of her life. They were married 35 wonderful years. During those 35 years, they had 5 daughters and 10 grandchildren. One of the most important things Joan loved doing was spending time with her husband. Some of the things Joan and her husband loved doing together were, spending time with their grandchildren, taking rides through Fort Defiance and around the lakes area, and playing with their dog Sydney. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for her family as well as knitting and crocheting. One of the things Joan loved the most was enjoying the Christmas season and all the happiness.
She is survived by her husband George A. Anderson Jr., 5 daughters, Amy Anderson of Des Moines, IA., April Butcher and her husband Brian of Cedar Rapids, IA., Angel Rowan and her husband Brett of Stuart, IA., Amber Thelen and her husband Jim of Estherville, IA., and Alicia Thelen and her husband Phil of Estherville, IA., and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Joel Jurrens and his wife Vickie of Estherville, IA., and Jan Jurrens of Onawa, IA., Jay Jurrens and his wife Deb of Emmetsburg, IA., and also 4 sisters, Jean Schubert and her husband Dwight of Cylinder, IA., June Spoo and her husband Kevin of Estherville, IA., Julie Schmidt and her husband Al of Graettinger, IA., and Jill Frederickson and her husband Randy of Sioux Falls, SD. Also surviving mother-in-law and father-in-law, George and Kathleen Anderson Sr., and sister-in-law, Deanna Gjerde and her husband Paul of Detroit Lakes, MN., and brother-in-law, Kent Anderson and his wife Becky of Gilbert, MN. Also surviving is her 98 year old grandmother-in-law, Cleo Anderson, who held a special place in Joan's heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Joyce Jurrens.
