Joe A. Holbrook, Jr. 85 of Hot Springs died Monday Sept. 12, 2011 at his residence. He was born March 15, 1926 in Helena, Ar. to the late Joe A. & Mattie Ona Cockrell Holbrook, Sr.
Joe graduated from Hot Springs High School and was an engineer with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and a Retired Lt. Colonel with the Air National Guard where he was 1st Commander of the 223rd Radio Communication Unit Air National Guard. He was also affiliated with the First Christian Church, was Past Master Masonic Sumpter Lodge #419 and Life Member Sojourners #70 Hot Springs Chapter. Some of Joe's special interests included reading, motorcycles and rebuilding antique cars. Joe was proud to serve in the U.S. Army & the Air National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Flora Holbrook Fleeman.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Lennie Lybrand Holbrook; daughter & son-in-law Rebecca Ann Holbrook Bates & Terry Bates; grandchildren, Megan & Dr. Steven Erwin, Cody Bates & Emily Turner and Hannah Bates; great grandchildren, Ashlynn Erwin, Colt Erwin, Victoria Turner & Hannah Turner.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011 at Gross Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Arkansas 1801 Central Ave. Hot Springs, AR. 71901.
