Joe Daniel Harris, 77, passed away peacefully at home on February 19, 2011. Born in Marion, NC on October 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Joseph and Minnie Harris. He served in the United States Navy for 22 years. While serving in the Navy, he established the 1st Teeball league in Guam. After retiring from the Navy, he worked and retired from Civil Service and Tea Pack. He enjoyed coaching little league, golfing, bowling and time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda D. Harris; a daughter, Robin Hawkins and husband Ashley of Virginia Beach, VA; and three sons, Bryan Harris and wife Robin of Portsmouth, VA, Joseph Harris and wife Lynne of Virginia Beach, VA, and James Harris and his wife Gina of Virginia Beach, VA. Also surviving are his three beloved grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katharine and Sydney, two great-grandchildren, Kevin and Matthew, all of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Margie Smith and Shirley Duncan, and a brother, Max Harris, all of Marion, NC. A memorial service with Military honors will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21st at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel. The Rev. Richard Moon will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Sentara Hospice Foundation, 6015 Poplar Hall Drive, Suite 308, Norfolk, VA 23502-3819.
