Dr. Joe Melvin Shockley, Jr., 75, of 200 Wexford Lane, died suddenly Saturday, November 24, 2007. Born September 9, 1932, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Joe Melvin Shockley, Sr. and Vivian Roberts Shockley and the husband of the late Marilyn Virginia Ropp Shockley. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he was professor emeritus and former department head at New Mexico Highlands University. He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, a member of the UGA Alumni Association, and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a son, Keith Ropp Shockley and his wife Linda of Ellsworth, ME; a daughter, Lauren Patricia Shockley of the home; his mother-in-law, Virginia C. Ropp of the home; and a brother, Jan D. Shockley of Spartanburg.

Visitation will be 12-12:45 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Floyds Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Laurens, SC.
