José (Joe) Martinez of Round Rock, Texas passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013, at the age of 65. He was born December 15, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas to Trinidad and Romana Martinez. He moved with his family to Lubbock, Texas in 1964, where he met his wife Mary Beatriz Salas and resided for 33 years. He was employed by Indian Head Grain Company for many years, loved reading, Native American history, Tejano music, and horses. He is preceded in death by his parents (1982 and 1990), parents-in-law Gabino and Domitila Salas (2013), brother Samuel (1964), and grand-daughter Pfc. Samantha Martinez (2011). He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years; children Liza (John) Orban (Michigan), Joe Martinez Jr. (Austin), Samuel Martinez (Round Rock), Mary Jane Martinez (Pflugerville), Crystal (Juan) Gonzales (Pflugerville), Tony (Pricilla) Martinez (Hutto), and Raymond (Esmeralda) Martinez (Lubbock); five brothers-Trinidad Jr., Martin, David, Miguel, Eddie, and sister, Janie; twenty grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and especially close to his heart, whom he raised as his own, was grand-daughter Alexandra Rose Martinez. Rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Austin-Peel & Son Funeral Home on Monday, August 5, 2013. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Pflugerville, Texas with interment to follow at Bagdad Cemetery in Leander, Texas.
