Joe Rene Shores Golenor of Benton died Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at home in the care of family and friends. She was born November 19, 1925 in Texarkana, AR to James & Velma Shores and spent most of her childhood in Monticello, AR. She was preceded in death by her parents along with two of her sisters Nancy McIlroy and Virginia Henry. She was a member of Mabelvale United Methodist Church.
Gran, as she was called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was devoted to her family. She was a gifted artist in her own right and that talent carried over and showed in the many homes she designed and built along with her husband Bill. She was also devoted to her many pets. There was no such word as stray where she was concerned. If an animal happened upon their property it was fed and taken care of just like it started out with them.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years C. W. "Bill" Golenor and Abby (her poodle) of the home. One sister Jimmy Meyer (Ron) of Mabelvale. One son, David Golenor (Patsy) of Hot Springs, two daughters Kathy Shelton (Joey) of Benton and Mary Jayne Green (David) of Roland. Four grandchildren, Michelle Koonce (John) of Gulf Shores, AL, Jennifer Martin (Kenny) of DeQueen, AR, Chase Shelton of Benton, Rebecca Green of Fayetteville. Seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Jalyn and Anna Koonce, Kayla, Kade, Maddie, and Jake Martin.
A special thanks go out to Arkansas Hospice for the wonderful care she was given in her last moments with her family and also to Becky Laurent, Cathy Wells, and Shelly Robertson her caregivers who worked constantly to make her life easier despite her many disabilities.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Humane Society of Saline County, P. O. Box 305, Benton, AR 72018 and the Arkansas/Oklahoma Alzheimer's Association 2448 E. 81st, Suite 3000, Tulsa, OK 74137-4250.
