Johanne W.Murphy, 82, of Bedford, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at 6:24 p.m. at her residence. Born October 19, 1929 in Catlin, Illinois, she was the daughter of Edward M. and Esther (Nesbitt) Wheeler. She married Paul J. Murphy on February 3, 1951; and he survives. She was a homemaker and registered nurse, having worked at Lakeview Hospital in Danville, Illinois. She was a graduate of Danville, Ill. High School, Class of 1947; and a graduate of Lakeview School of Nursing, Danville, Ill. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she was very active in Parish and School activities; Tri Kappa Sorority; American Red Cross Volunteer, including being a member of the Indiana State Council; she received the Paragon Award for Indiana Red Cross Volunteer of the Year; charter member Bedford Swim Club; was on Bedford City Council for 11 years; board member of Bedford Girls' Club; BHS and BNL Booster Clubs; Grubbies Bridge Club and other bridge clubs; board member of Louisville Regional Blood Center (Red Cross); charter member of Bedford Recreation Foundation; and she was a 2007 recipient of the Walk with Excellence Award (Women of Excellence). Surviving are her husband, Paul J. Murphy of Bedford; six sons, Michael (Linda) Murphy, Evansville; Kevin (Michelle) Murphy, Bedford; Thomas (Margaret) Murphy, Danville; Richard (Lisa) Murphy, Bloomington; Daniel (Moriah) Murphy, Tallahassee, FL; Tim (Velvet) Murphy, Bedford; two daughters, Karen (Alan) Chase, Bedford; Susan (Dan) Moster, Ft. Wayne; 19 grandchildren, Miranda Stull, Alex and Olivia Roll, Kyle (Holly) Murphy, Meghan (Ian) Edington, Lori (Ryan) Wronowicz-Frasher, Matthew Wronowicz, Daniel, Mark and Emily Murphy, Mallory and Elliot Murphy, Charley and Michael Murphy, Josh, Ivy and Sarah Murphy, Katelyn and Anna Moster; one great-granddaughter, Adelyn Murphy; and special sister, Audrey Thorlton, Port Charlotte, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Wheeler. Funeral service will be on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Fr. Rick Eldred and Deacon Dave Reising officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on Friday, 3 – 8 p.m. at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home, with Rosary prayed at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thornton Memorial Boys Club, Limestone Girls Club, and American Red Cross.
