John Charles "Jack" O'Connor,Sr. 85, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at The Towne House Retirement Center in Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne July14,1926, Jack worked as a Plumber-Pipefitter with Shambaugh & Sons for 32 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Plumbers & Steamfitter's Union Local 166, Holy Name Society, St. Vincent dePaul Society, American Legion Post # 82, and volunteered for the American Red Cross. He participated in the Plumbers and Steamfitter's Apprenticeship Program as instructor or coordinator for 25 years He was an Army Veteran serving with the CO 'A' 511 Parachute Infantry in WWII. Survivors include wife, Rita McKenzie-O'Connor of Fort Wayne, sons, John C. (Barbara) O'Connor Jr. of Zanesville, Thomas A. (Patricia) O'Connor of Auburn, IN, daughters, Maureen R. (Michael) Beard of Warsaw, Margaret E. "Peggy" O'Connor of Fort Wayne, Kathleen M. (James) Vachon of Roanoke, Angela M. (William) Jackson of Cincinnati, OH, step-sons, Kevin S. McKenzie of Angola, Daniel P. (Laura) McKenzie of Woodburn, brothers, James (Audrey) O'Connor of Naples, FL, Paul (Rita) O'Connor of Indianapolis,Patricia (Michael) Meehan of Huntertown, Jeanne Derheimer of Fort Wayne,18 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 16 step-great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Monica O'Connor, parents, John L. & Magdalen R. (Linnemann) O'Connor, son, Dennis (Diane) O'Connor, grandson, Matthew (Lisa) O'Connor, and sister, Mary Krock. Mass of Christian Burial is 2:30 pm, Saturday, June 23, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2213 Brooklyn Avenue Ft. Wayne with Fr. Timothy Wrozek presiding with calling 45 minutes prior to service. Calling also, Friday, June 22, 2012 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm & 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel 2114 S. Calhoun St. with Rosary at 4:00 pm. Entombment in Catholic Cemetery , Fort Wayne, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Vincent dePaul Society or Alzheimer's Research.
