Kensington, NH John "J.T." Dinsmore Trafton, 82, died on December 20, 2010 at the Exeter Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born on December 10, 1928 in Newburyport, MA, the son of the late Walter R. and Grace (Flint) Trafton . J.T. spent his childhood on Hampton Falls and Kensington NH, and formerly resided in Exeter, NH and on Nantucket Island. He graduated from the NH Technical Institute in Concord, NH in 1954. A well known "jack of all trades", he was self employed in many fields throughout his life including gas station owner, chauffeur services, and property management. He was also involved in the ballroom and square dance community. He taught dance lessons and was a member of two square dance clubs; the Old Joe Clark Organization of Cambridge, MA and the Durham Reelers. John was also very active in the local community. He was a charter member of the Kensington Fire Department; an active member of the Hampton Falls Grange #171; the Exeter Chamber of Commerce; and the Senior Friends. His personal slogan, ("J.T. Your Friendly Neighbor"), was an accurate description of who he really was. He is survived by his six children and their spouses, Michael and wife Deb Mattin of Hampton, NH, Stephen and wife Claire Mattin of Kensington, NH, Patrick and wife Raisa Mattin of Ipswich, MA, Kathryn Mattin of Sandown, NH, Richard Trafton of San Francisco, CA, and Sarah and husband Raul Fonseca of Santa Rosa, CA; and 18 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his former wife, Elizabeth Lane Trafton. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, NH is assisting the family. Donations may be made in his memory to the Ralph Page Memorial Library, c/o the University of New Hampshire Library, 18 Library Way, Durham, NH 03824, or to the Kensington Fire and Rescue Department, 124 Amesbury Rd., Kensington, NH 03833.
