Mr. John Dalton Cathcart, age 76, of Hampton, Georgia passed away October 29, 2011. Mr. Cathcart was born in Troup County, Georgia the son of the late Burman Thompson Cathcart and Mary Bell Pendergrass Cathcart. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ed Cathcart. He served his country in the US Navy and retired with 20 years of service. After his service in the military he went to work with the US Post Office and worked in management for 22 years. He was a member of Berea Christian Church in Hampton, GA. Mr. Cathcart enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, bowling, traveling, fishing, playing cards, and being outside. Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Diane McCall Cathcart of Hampton; children, Joanna Vee Monds (Clay) of Griffin, Michael Cathcart (Valeska) of Orlando, Danette Powell of Hampton and Mathew Cathcart (Jennifer) of New Hampshire; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Langford of LaGrange; brother, Bud Cathcart of Hogansville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Mr. Cathcart will be Thursday, November 3, 2011 – 11:00 am at Berea Christian Church with Rev. David Fulton and Rev. Dennis Fulton officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4 – 7:00 PM. For those who wish in lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Atlanta, Georgia 30346.
