During World War II, John served as warrant officer for the United States Army for five years in England, France, and Germany. After the war, he returned to civilian life and worked for several companies as a tool and die maker. His final 20 years of work, he was employed by the B.F. Goodrich Woodburn plant from which he retired in 1979. Surviving are daughter, Adele Richardson; and granddaughter, Anne Marie Richardson
