John Eugene Huxley, 52, of Dunbar, passed away on May 29, 2013, at Hubbard Hospice House-West.
He was born on December 31, 1960 in Indianapolis, IN. He graduated from Glenville State College with a BA degree and received two Masters from West Virginia Graduate College and Marshall University Graduate College. He taught in Kanawha County, Boone County, and at Charleston Catholic High School before moving on to the WV State Department of Education, Office of Special Education. He then started his most recent job at Marshall University Graduate College as the Director of Distance Education. He was very proud of his children and acted as coach and supporter at various times throughout their many endeavors, both athletic and otherwise. John enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved baseball and was a strong advocate for the Charleston Catholic baseball program, while also starting the first Charleston Catholic Middle School baseball team in 2005. He lived life to the fullest, always displaying a positive attitude. He was most often surrounded by his family and special circle of friends. He was a member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral. John was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father, Warren G. Huxley
John is survived by his wife, LuAnne Brugnoli Huxley and his precious two children Jill and Patrick. His mother, Nona Huxley of Parkersburg. Five sisters, Barbara (John) Guilfoy of Indianapolis, Becky (Lewis) Moyers of Parkersburg, Patty (Butch) Moore of Belpre, OH, Dawn Huxley, also of Belpre, and Peggy Huxley Jones of Parkersburg. Four brothers, Tom Huxley of Cross Lanes, Jeff (Cindy) Huxley of Lubeck, Greg Huxley of Parkersburg, and Joey (Diana) Huxley also of Parkersburg, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Service to Honor the Life of John will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 3, 2013, at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral, with Monsignor P. Edward Sadie officiating.
Family and friends may visit from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Snodgrass Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: the future new David Lee Cancer Center, 3100 MacCorkle Ave SE, Charleston, WV 25304 or the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, 1317 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.
