John E. Peterson, age 70, of Moline, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, after a brief battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at First Lutheran Church 1230-5th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Wilber L. Burress Endowment or First Lutheran Church, Moline.
John was born September 2, 1941 at Lutheran Hospital in Moline, the son of Elmer C. and Elizabeth O. Edmund Peterson. He married Margie Grace Foust on February 17, 1973 at First Lutheran Church in Moline
She preceded him in death on September 6, 2003.
John was a partner of C.E. Peterson Sons Co., a construction company his grandfather started in 1913. He was a 1959 graduate of Moline High School. John was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a life time member of First Lutheran Church in Moline, where he served on various committees. He was also a member and past president of the Dahlia Society; past president and former board member of the Association of Retarded Citizens of the Quad Cities. John enjoyed playing cards, bowling and fishing for walleye and northern pike at his cabin in Minnesota. He also enjoyed growing dahlias and meeting for lunch with his friends every day at the 16th Street Maid Rite. Most of all, John had great love for his family.
