John F. Hagee Jr., 65, of Williamsburg, passed away on September 17, 2012 after a courageous four-year battle against colon cancer.
Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, and son of the late John F. Hagee and Kathryn Kehm Hagee, John was a graduate of the Salesianum School and the University of Delaware, and was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. He then began a very successful career as a real estate developer.
After moving to Williamsburg, John played a significant role in the design and development of Kingsmill Realty, Inc. where he served as General Manger for twenty-five years. John also served as a member of the James City County Planning Commission from January 1989 to 2004. During that time he served as the Committee Chairman for the 1997 Comprehensive Plan Update and in addition, served as the Development Review Committee Chairman from 2000-2004, including the approval of the Newtown development.
In his leisure time, John enjoyed skiing, fly fishing, golf, and thoroughbred horse racing.
Wonderful father, husband, brother and friend, he is survived by his devoted wife, June Moore Hagee; a son, John F. Hagee III, and his fiancée, Melissa Parris; two daughters, Erin Brothers and her husband, Jason, and Colleen Hazelwood and her husband, Paul; a brother, Joseph Hagee and his wife, Lillian; and a sister, Kay Ellis, both from Delaware; all of whom were inspired by the strength and grace he showed his last days as a model of not only how to live, but how to handle dying.
A Memorial Service will be held at Kingsmill Resort Conference Center, Williamsburg, VA, at 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 23. Interment will take place at the St. Bede Church Columbarium in Williamsburg, VA, at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John F. Hagee Jr. Memorial Fund, Salesianum School, Attn: Michael Augsberger, 1801 N Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19802. The memorial fund will provide scholarships to students from Nativity Prep School, a Catholic middle school serving low-income students, to Salesianum (High School). John was blessed with receiving a scholarship to Salesianum and he was always reminded how important that opportunity was in his life.
