John Fredric Masciantoni

Apopka, FL - John died of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on January 26, 2012. He was born in Atlantic City, NJ, on August 27, 1947 and moved to Florida in 1954. John is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter Ramona George (Brad) of Cody, Wyoming, and their six children; son John (Teresa) of Albuquerque, NM and their five children; and stepson Jarrod Lopatka (fiancee Kristin Stewart). He is predeceased by his parents, Fernando and Nettie, and one grandchild, Aaron. Survivors also include his sisters, Dale Walker (Alan) and their two children; and Joan Masciantoni and her two children; brothers-in-law Mike Kozak (Linda) and Peter Kozak, mother-in-law Ruth Kozak Jacob, plus numerous family members. John was a renaissance man who had many talents. He was a drummer who played professionally with the Dick Clark '50's shows and with local bands. He taught at Columbia Elementary in Orange County and Sterling Park Elementary in Seminole County, and started the instructional computing program in Seminole County Public Schools in the 1980's. He worked in the IT Department at Orange County Public Schools for several years and most recently was an analyst for a healthcare company. John was an environmentalist, an animal lover and a lifelong learner who had a strong passion for public education. A celebration of life will be held at the Baldwin-Fairchild West Altamonte Chapel, 90 Weathersfield Avenue, Altamonte Springs, 32714, on Saturday, January 28, from 2-5 p.m. Donations in John's memory can be made to the ALS Association Florida Chapter, the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools or the Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools.
