John J. Haynes 90, of Decatur passed away at 3:15 p.m., Wednesday October 23, 2013 in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur.

A service to celebrate John's life will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 28, 2013 at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard and the US Army Honors team. The family would like to receive friends for a time of visitation on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. John was born July 2, 1923 in Decatur, IL the son of John O. and Mary Odessa (Blakeman) Haynes. He married Ellen I Gurley on March 16, 1946. He was a retired carpenter and most recently had worked for Huss Builders. He proudly served in the US Army and was a W.W.II veteran. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed wood working.

Surviving is his wife Ellen of Decatur; daughters: Karen Lillpop and her husband Norman of Macon and Debbie Herbert of Macon; brothers: Tommy Lee Haynes and his wife Ruth of Nevada, MO and Jerry D. Haynes and his wife Pam of Biloxi, MS; grandchildren: Matt Lillpop and his wife Angel of Rock Falls, IL, Mark Herbert Jr. and his wife Lisa of Decatur, Tim Lillpop and his wife Jaimie of Mt. Zion, and Adam Herbert and his wife Traci of Macon; great-grandchildren: Anna Herbert, Chloe Herbert, Abby Herbert, Joshua Lillpop, and Brodie Lillpop.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Mark Herbert, parents, one brother and two sisters.
