John J. Mastalski, 94, of Hobe Sound, Florida, died May 27, 2011at his home.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he had been a resident of Hobe Sound for 15 years coming from Newport, Rhode Island.

He was a career officer in the US Navy retiring after 30 years of military service. He served in World War II through the Vietnam War as a Naval Engineer. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal; Good Conduct Medal (3); American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Navy Occupation Service Medal National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars; Korean Presidential Unit Citation; United Nations Medal.

He was a Lifetime Member of the VFW and was a member of the Retired Officers’ Association. He was a parishioner of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Hobe Sound.

Survivors include sons, Michael E. Mastalski of Sacramento, California, John H. Mastalski of Hobe Sound and Anthony Mastalski of Fredericksburg, Virginia; daughters, Catherine E. Byron of Faribault, Minnesota, Elizabeth M. Walker of Anacortes, Washington and Stephanie A. Medeiros of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Angela Maria Mastalski in 2006.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Forest Hills Funeral Homes Young and Prill Chapel.
