John J Marino, Jr., of Vero Beach, FL and Alexandria, VA, beloved husband of Carol Thompson Marino, found peace after his extended battle with cancer on August 16, 2013.

He was born in Malden, MA and graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1965 where he met Carol. They were married on September 2, 1967 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. John received a Chemistry degree from the University of Florida in 1969, and later earned his Master's in Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology.

Those who only knew John later in life may not have known that he worked as a ranch hand, rode a motorcycle and even played lead guitar in a band. He found his passion for flying after completing ROTC in college. John received his commission as a US Army officer, and was assigned to flight school where he earned his rotary and fixed wing licenses. He served in several operational and command positions, including command of a rescue helicopter unit and Chief Administrator of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing. In 1979, he started his civilian career at FlightSafety International in Vero Beach, FL where he held positions in operations, management and marketing. John and Carol spent time in Europe and Asia including living in Beijing, China for 6 years. He was currently working in the Washington DC area as the VP of Government Operations. John always had a joke and never met a stranger. He loved his family, enjoyed traveling and cherished watching the sunset over the Indian River Lagoon.

He is survived by wife, Carol Thompson Marino; children Rob and Maureen Marino and Allison and Jason St. John; and cherished granddaughters Caitlin, Callie and Madeline Marino and Marisa St. John.

Viewing will be held at 10 am on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Fairlington United Methodist Church in Alexandria, VA. Memorial Service will be at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach or Wounded Warriors Project. For additional information and to please share a memory, visit www.tributes.com/JohnMarino.
