John Lloyd Kuhn, 87, of Marquette, was joined in heaven with his beloved wife, Elaine, Monday morning, Oct. 24, 2011. He was a resident of the Jacobetti Home for Veterans since August 2010 and was a lifelong resident of the Marquette area. John was born January 30, 1924 in Marquette, to the late Charles and Hazel (Murphy) Kuhn. He attended Bishop Baraga High School graduating in 1947 after completion of his military service. In 1947, he married Elaine Frances Carriere of Marquette in St. John's Catholic Church. John and Elaine had six daughters and were married for 63 years. John served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, participating in two campaigns - Bougainville and Guam. He was honorably discharged after being wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Following his military service, John was employed by the Marquette Branch Prison for 31 years as a corrections officer, retiring in 1978. After retirement, he worked as a part-time bus driver for the Marquette Public School System for several years. John was active in the Knights of Columbus as a member of Nolan B. McKevitt Council # 689 as well as the VFW and American Legion Post #44. John is survived by his daughters, Kathryn (James) Stelzel of Jupiter, FL, Mary Patricia (Daniel) Johnson of Big Bay, MI, Constance (Robert) Ohlund of Moreno Valley, CA, Jacqueline (Raymond Sharkey) Kuhn of Marquette, MI, Joan (Stephen) Cardinal of New Holstein, WI and Karen (David) Ristau of Woodbury, MN; also well one granddaughter, nine grandsons, three great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was his beloved wife, Elaine on June 4, 2011; two sisters, Marie "Bob" Shaw and Evelyn "Sis" Greenleaf; also two brothers, Charles "Bill" and Chester "Buck." Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Bishop's Room of St. Peter Cathedral. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the cathedral at 12:30 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Ryan Ford officiating. Graveside services will take place for both John and Elaine in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans Activities Fund, Lake Superior Hospice Association or the Bay Cliff Health Camp.
