John Lawson Hedrick, Sr.

John Lawson Hedrick, Sr., 91 of Crab Orchard passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012. Born April 10, 1920, he was the son of William Joseph and Minerva Walker Hedrick. John was preceded in death by his loving wife Almedia Hedrick in 2009; daughters, Victoria Staton in 1990 and Rebecca Wisemen in October 2009.
He is the youngest of twelve children. John was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to hunt with his brothers and nephews. He raised cattle and horses along with rabbits. He talked to his children about his love of the earth and what farming did for his family and neighbors. John was a member of the Mabscott Fraternal Order of Eagles for over fifty years; he was also a member of the Beckley Moose and Midway VFW.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Gertrude Dabbs and husband John of Charlotte, NC, Beulah Monarchy and husband James of Beckley, WV; son John Hedrick, Jr. and wife Jill of Crab Orchard, WV; 10 grandchildren, Eugene Schott and wife Donna of Charlotte, NC, Michael Wiseman and wife Rebecca of Palm Bay, FL, Jim Monarchy and wife Michelle of Palm Bay, FL, Carla Swartz and husband Danny of Palm Bay, FL, Kimberly Mahlmeister and husband Billy of Palm Bay, FL, Teresa Staton-Cole and husband Jason of Beckley, WV, John L. Hedrick, III of Crab Orchard, WV, Angela Messer and husband Duke of Crab Orchard, WV, Joshua Hedrick of Crab Orchard, Alma Williams and husband Adam of Vero Beach, FL; 10 great-grand-children; 1 great-great-grandson and one wonderful caregiver, Ann Honaker.
Services will be held at 2:00 Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Roger E. Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Friends may gather with the family Saturday from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd and 4th Floor of the Beckley VA Medical Center for their wonderful care especially Dr. Boyd.
